East China Normal University

Cofounded in October 1951 by China’s Department of Education and Shanghai Municipal Government, East China Normal University (ECNU) is one of the most prestigious research universities in China, and is one of the key institutions in the national “Project 211” and “Project 985.” It was established at the original site of Daxia University (1924). Formed on the basis of Daxia and Guanghua University (1925), ECNU also absorbed academic departments from Fudan University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, St. Johns University, and other institutions. With the spirit of “Excelsior and Integrity” and the tradition of “Integrating Learning and Thinking, Fusing East with West,” the school pursues the goal of “Wisdom,Character, and Community” and follows the motto of “creating values, setting models.” ECNU has achieved notable success in teacher training, scientific research, community service, and international exchange. Attaching great importance to international cooperation, the university has established exchange programs and partnerships with a number of world-renowned academic institutions. Most recently, it has cofounded NYU-Shanghai with New York University, the first China-U.S. joint university with independent legal entity.

Given its forte in pedagogy and education, ECNU provides ECNUAS with educational ideas, curriculum resources, teaching management support, professional training, and international education resources, etc. ECNUAS will serve as a base for new teacher practical training and will also make full use of ECNU’s academic resources in humanities, arts, mathematics, sciences, and sports to offer students a broader perspective and more diverse opportunities for exploration.
